Cordy meets some friends on a shopping trip that has been slightly ruined by "angel radio".

July 24, 2016
Japantown, San Francisco

Usually, Cordelia is in the area to go to the mall for a little retail therapy. Whatever shops it has, it's still a mall and still a place that she knows well enough to feel comforted by. Today, however, she's gathering ingredients in Japantown.

It's not as easy as it used to be. Cordy used to be able to just sort of tune out and do the errands, but today isn't exactly like that. Today, she's frustrated by getting runoff from "angel radio" as Wyatt called it.

"Ugh," Cordelia mutters to herself. "I wish I could figure out how to turn this off." It's about the one and only drawback to all these great powers.

Then, abruptly, a voice comes from beside her.

"It's not really that simple, unfortunately." The voice's owner is very average-looking, somewhat scruffy man in a rumpled trench coat. He also has the obvious aura of one of the Heavenly Host, which Cordy's borrowed powers make easy enough to see. Offering a somewhat pained grimace of a smile, he says, "Hello. My name is Castiel. I was looking for Wyatt, but... I see the situation has become... complicated."

Adam Milligan was walking out of the mall with several bags of clothes. Its not commonly known but he likes buying cute clothes just as much as most girls, he just tries to play it off. He hears a familair voice and looks over seeing castiel talking to a rather hot woman. He walks up a few seconds later, "Hey Cas! What's up?" He tilts his head at the woman, trying to place her. He thinks he's seen her on a tv show? Or maybe it was a trash bag commercial... Something...

Oh god. It's a flasher. Cordelia's met her share of these. "Look, I'm not in the mood--" She holds her hands up, trying to be as gentle as possible. But then he continues to introduce himself. And...he's looking for Wyatt? This must be the nice angel Castiel they were telling her about when this first happened!

"Oh, you're Castiel!" But Cordy doesn't barely get that out before Adam joins them, and then the situation gets more complicated again. "You better not be Uriel! I don't want to deal with you today!"

Blinking, Castiel says, "No, Cordelia, this is Adam. He and his brothers are... friends of mine." He nods to Adam, saying, "Hello. I'm just... taking stock of an unusual situation. How are... things?" Then, his gaze straying back to Cordelia, he frowns. "This situation is highly unusual. It will cause... upset." A beat. "Like. A lot."

Adam Milligan knows of Uriel of course, and manages to say, "Boom." with a perfectly straight face before Cas can tell her who he is. He tilts his head curiously then sniffs the air at the bags that Cordelia is holding, "Hrm, I recognize some of those spices. Are you a witch?" He asks eagerly. He hasn't had a chance to find a friendly witch to teach him yet, and has been learning everything he knows from the various books that Bobby and other hunters possess.

"That was a pause friend. So like...you're all together? Because when people pause before they say friend, usually it means 'it's complicated'." Cordelia raises her hands to do finger quotes. Adam gets a sort of look, and that look is made even more faintly skeptical over time. But when he asks his question, a slight smile returns. "Nah. Just getting some supplies. We like to have all the stuff we need on-hand, just in case. Obscure rituals, weird monsters, stuff like that. It's always something bizarre and special."

Of course, then she has to acknowledge the rest of what Castiel has said. Cordy transfers her other bag so that she carries both with one hand, leaving the other free to gesture as she speaks. "We're trying to fix it. Just...chill. It's not like I've been conquering the world or anything. I've even paid attention to his charge! I'm good!"

Nodding agreeably to Cordelia, Castiel says, "Yes, it's... complicated. That's right." Of course, he has no idea at all what she's likely assuming based on this. Rather, he seems quite relieved that she seems to understand! "So, all is... well?" the angel asks Adam, then looks again to Cordelia. Looking almost sheepish, he says, "I'm not here to admonish you, Cordelia. I'm simply concerned. Wyatt is family." There is, notably, no pause this time.

Adam Milligan realizes that he hasn't talked to Cas much if at all since he started learning to make potions and had decided to be more of a supernatural healer instead of just a hunter. He shrugs though and smiles at Cordelia, "Ah cool. So you like work for a hunter or something?" He says not quite getting who she is or what's going on. After all he is just a human. He nods at Castiel though, "Yep every thing is pretty normal, at least as far as I've seen. I've heard a few weird reports out of a place called 'Beacon Hills'. But that place always has weird things going on."

"I, uh...I work with um. Angel. Not like, Castiel. His name's Angel." Cordelia still isn't sure at all how to gauge Castiel and what he says. So these guys...are all a...one big happy family. Something like that. One big happy relationship. Whatever. "Don't worry! We asked Nessa. The witch. Big-time magic celebrity. She's gonna fix it. She just needs a little time."

Nodding, Castiel seems reassured by Cordelia's words. He also offers Adam one of his attempts at a smile, saying, "You're correct about that. Fortunately, I'm not generally called to go there. Presently, Beacon Hills is more... fairy territory." He shakes his head again. Then, looking to Cordelia, he says, "I trust you'll solve it. It's just... very unusual. After all, you're already very important to the Powers That Be." He states this as a clear, obvious fact.

Adam Milligan listens and figures he's hearing something waaay above his pay grade, but just shrugs and files it away like most things. Though when Cordelia mentions Angel, a lightbulb flashes over his head and he nods, "Oh Angel's cool, he and Ainsley and I fought this water demon thing once." He does at least have the presence of mind to keep his voice low when he says that. Then starts to look through his bags at the cute outfits he'd bought earlier.

"You're not supposed to call them fairies anymore," Cordy points out casually, almost as if it were an automatic correction she's had to mention more than once. "Wait...I am? I mean...I guess I am?" She frowns, her thoughts slightly derailed. She had started to realize that Cas was probably talking about actual fairies, but now it's personal. Cautiously, she continues, narrowing her eyes slightly. "Is that a good...or a bad thing?"

It's good to Cordelia that Adam knows Angel. That'll make things easier. Probably. They won't have to wait for awkward introductions. "Ainsley. That's one of his...hair buddies."

"You're not?" Castiel says, looking baffled. "Is there a more appropriate term?" He glances to Adam, as if for confirmation, but does admit, "Yes... Angel is a Champion. He's on the side of Heaven." He seems unsure what to say about Adam's shopping, though he does ask, "Are your brothers doing well?" Looking back to Cordelia almost uneasily, he says, "I... suppose that would depend on your perspective. It's good... in that you can serve... the greater good?"

Adam Milligan pulls out a pink muscle shirt with She-Ra, and #DomTop on it. "Yeah they're good. Look what I got for Dean!" He says, oblivious to the importance of the situation. He doesn't really have much to contribute to things at the moment. Though he is there and listening, ready to pipe in if he has anything pertinent to say.

"That's so totally a non-answer and at the same time it's the worst answer." Cordy crosses one arm over to grasp the other elbow, shifting her posture to one hip. Everything else takes a back seat for that topic. "Spill. I wanna know what's up." Although when Adam pulls out the shirt, it's enough to get her attention for a second. "He'll...love that. I'm sure. Nice...color scheme." She turns immediately back to Cas. This demands answers. She's sure she knows all she needs to know about the Winchesters right now.

Castiel peers at the shirt. "That... is very striking. It seems appropriate for someone of Dean's generation, at least," he observes. Looking back to Cordelia, he looks pained, at a loss. "I don't know how to explain it. You've been an Oracle for the Powers for some time now. That makes you one step below a Prophet, and that is a very important position. You're... a conduit. Between Heaven and Earth." He looks to Adam, almost silently begging for help in explaining this.

Adam Milligan considers it for a moment and says, "I think he's saying that you're very important, because you're basically a supernatural cellphone. There are rules as to what messengers like Cas can say, or even be told. We have free will and all that. But you, you have a direct line to powers far far beyond Cas. And are one of the only ways the Powers That Be can help without breaking the rules?" He says trying to make it sound better. He's done a fair bit of research by now and understands how truly rare communication between humans and higher powers really is.

"A conduit." Cordy still maintains a strong skepticism. "I really don't like how that sounds." She returns the second bag to her hand, perhaps growing tired of having them both in one. When Adam tries to explain further, that at least seems to get through to her. She looks slightly less unsure about it. "Well...that sounds a little bit better. I mean...they do kinda come off as giant assbags, so maybe they can actually manage to give their PR a spin."

Castiel seems relieved. He nods to Adam gratefully and says, "Yes, that's an excellent explanation. Thank you, Adam." He frowns a little at Cordelia's description of the Powers, brow furrowing, and says, "They... are imperfect. But they do the best they are able in an imperfect world." He stops, then, seeming unsure, even awkwardly so, but he seems at a loss to either agree and condemn the Powers That Be--or to muster a more convincing defense.

Adam Milligan has a thoughtful look on his youthful face as he once again tries in his own way to help Castiel, "Don't ask me. I'm not even sure which powers we're talking about her. Each religion and belief has a different set, or at least a different understanding of that set. Maybe its just that the signal is really weak and open to human interpretation? Or something?" He shrugs, "All I know is that I do everything I can to make the world a safer place. And to help the poor people who get caught up in the supernatural who don't have any clue what's going on."

"They're imperfect? I thought they were supposed to be like...gods, or something?" Cordy maintains a fairly high level of skepticism and caution in her day-to-day life, but she's pretty sure anyone in her position would do about the same. "Okay. I'm out. I need to get one more bag of junk and then it's home again, jiggity-jig for me. You know where to find me." She manages a sort of half-wave before starting off on her path. She could orb, but...she just doesn't want to deal with all of that right now. It's all confusing and she can deal with sorting out all these conflicting, bizarre pieces of information later.

Nodding, Castiel says, "I'm... sorry if I've inconvenienced you. Thank you for speaking to me." He watches Cordelia go, then turns to give Adam a look of mixed gratitude and apology. "Thank you for helping with that. Please greet your brothers for me. And take care of yourself." Then, without another word, he simply vanishes, leaving behind only the usual sound of distant, fluttering wings.
