Angel and Kat discuss Stefan's ripper devolution and the effect of that on Mikhail, and reconciling concerning Angel's missteps in the Dawn situation.

Hyperion Hotel San Francisco

The Hyperion Hotel[]

The lights are on, illuminating the area.

The California-Spanish building known as the Hyperion Hotel was built in the 20s. Through the cast iron gates from the sidewalk is a small front courtyard with a rectangular fountain and a mythological figure holding a bowl from which water flows. Greenery frames the walls and a large set of glass double doors open into a high ceilinged lobby. Dark red carpet descends the four steps to the lobby floor and climb the two sets of stairways that lead to the second floor. The green marble floors are accented with wavy red inserts, as are the walls have a complimentary red border running their length. A set of doors identical to those of the entrance lead to a small enclosed garden.

Cream-colored pillars line two sides of the room, holding up the second-floor balconies that look out onto the lobby and creating arches. Underneath one of them is a large plate glass window that looks into the hotel office - now used as the office and nerve center of Angel Investigations. Nearby, there's a wraparound counter with dark wood paneling and a top the same color as the floor. Behind it are filing cabinets and a pair of desks pushed together. A navy blue circular couch harkening back to a 50s design sits near the back of the lobby. A large wooden, glass-doored cabinet pushed up against the wall holds a large assortment of weapons.

Outside, it's overcast and warm.

It's evening, and Angel's doing some paperwork while he waits for a certain guest of his he has coming. While he's made some mistakes previously, things have hopefully calmed down a bit since then. Even if new problems have sprung up. Still, these problems concern her line, so the right of what to do about them is ultimately hers.

Katherine arrives at the Hyperion, the brunette vampiress not hesitating as she walks inside. She does stop once indoors, though, her eyes sweeping the place to get a feel for it.

Angel sees his guest coming in. Hopefully that is the Elder, and not Elena. Then again, this really is Kat's business, so he figures it'll really be her. "Kat..." Angel gets up, and goes to greet his guest. "Good to see you."

Katherine lifts an eyebrow. "Is it? What kind of a disaster have you been letting go on, Angel?" She crosses her arms over her chest, and to put it mildly, does not seem pleased.

Angel sighs. "I didn't LET a disaster go on. Stefan got too far removed from his emotions, and shut them off. He, in turn, shut the emotions of his childe, Mikhail off. And now Stefan's running around as a ripper, and Mikhail is...well, you know how emotions off goes." He added, "I contacted you when I found out about those things. You'll know how to deal with it better then I would."

"And he was supposed to be training with YOU. So how did YOU let this happen?" Katherine asks, walking closer. "And from what I hear about Mikhail, he should have been killed long ago."

Angel shook his head. "I see him a lot more rarely then you have been thinking. He's been off on his own, far away. The last time I saw him before he was completely lost was on July 4th. I hadn't seen him since till my seers got a vision about him. So I snapped his neck and took him into custody. Mikhail got ordered, somehow, to release him. I'm not sure why Mikhail acted as if mind controlled, but...it happened, and none of us saw it coming."

"The sire bond, if Stefan turned him." She scowls. "Do we know where they are now?"

"Mikhail's in town, somewhere. He just had it out with Eva a couple nights ago. Stefan, I don't know. But I'm confident we can find Mikhail sooner rather then later." He adds, "I won't know where Stefan is unless my seers find him again."

"And what is the plan to deal with Mikhail?" She looks over. "The magic is going to make things a wild card."

"Mikhail has magic, but he's still untrained as a fighter. He relies on strength and speed, and that's far less then yours or mine. We can simply snap his neck before he gets a spell off." Angel's direct and to the point, about dealing with him.

"Be better if we can put someone at range. Wooden bullets, or crossbows. Just in case our front-line fighter can't pull it off fast enough." Katherine's very matter-of-fact at this point. This isn't the time for holding grudges, it's the time for solving problems.

"Crossbows we have. Normal bows too. Faith's a pretty good archer in a pinch, and she's got a vervain bracelet now. Taking him out from long distance shouldn't be a problem." Naturally, Angel, being Angel, has all sorts of all wooden crossbow bolts to use as flying fatalities.

"Good. When do we do this? And have we accounted for the possibility of Stefan showing up?" Katherine asks. "I'd like to not leave our bases uncovered."

"If Stefan shows up...which seems unlikely at the moment, he can be taken out in melee by any of you, me, or Faith. He's good, but he's not THAT good. Either a neck snapping or a vervain injection should do it. He'll be prepared for a neck snap, since I took him out that way the first time I captured him, but that only delays the inevitable." And doesn't prepare him for Angel of all people having vervain injections available.

"Understood." Katherine considers it. "I can be in the area as Elena. Either he'll hesitate to hurt her, or one of them will think she's prey, and then they're mine."

And...Angel has another thing to say, "Kat? I'm sorry about Dawn. I really should've told you sooner. And I shouldn't have expected so much from you." He screwed up, and knows it, and simply apologizes for his errors

"Yes, you should have." Katherine says. "That's all right, Angel. Revenge is a sucker's game. I'll adapt. I always do." She looks at him. "That said, just letting people off the hook doesn't teach them to learn from their mistakes, either. It would be best not to let it happen again."

Angel remembers that. "Elena let me have it for that, ya know. Also, I'm pretty sure I screwed her birthday up by pissing you off just then. I don't suppose we can do something for her to make up for that? I figure you'd have taken her somewhere nice, at least." As for not letting it happen again, "Well, I did notify you immediately when this happened. Best I can do."

"I did take her somewhere nice. And you handled /this/ thing all right. The Dawn mess...well, that's its own affair. But, we can at least solve this problem."

Angel looks relieved, "Oh, good. I thought I'd ruined it for her." Apparently, he did not. Less he talks about Dawn, then, the better. Reset things off to a better track with this. Tacit forgiveness is better then none.

Katherine nods. "Call me when you need me for this. Or if you get any leads on Stefan. And we'll try to get THAT problem solved too."

"Yes. Stefan is probably more dangerous right now, particularly to Elena. I'd expect him to try to feed on the one most likely to bring his emotions back before she has a chance to do that." He figures that's right, but the woman in front of him now knows him better then he does.

Katherine nods. "I've kept Elena at the house, when I'm not with her. He can't enter there; not invited." She replies "Not that I'm even sure he knows about the San Francisco house."

"He shouldn't. Even I don't know where it is, and I haven't been looking for it." Mostly out of respect. If he needed to know, Kat would tell him herself. "Still, Elena does go outside now and then, and if Stefan found her out there..."

"Agreed. We have to solve the problem. But I've been out with her whenever I can. And I'll keep a tighter rein on her with all this."

"Don't leash her too much. There's other places where she's safe. Caritas, for one...the anti violence wards in there will prevent anyone from hurting anyone else, no matter how deranged they are. And she's safe here." Because then he can personally garuntee it with all the warriors he has around. Himself, Faith, and others.

"Don't worry. I know how to handle Elena." She replies. "Speaking of which, I don't want to leave her alone longer than I have to. I should be getting back."

"Alright. Let me know if you need to pass her off for a while. The one downside to relying on invitations is people psychotic enough to burn the whole house down. I don't know if Stefan's the sort who'd think of that...but he might." Angel's offering, though, just in case.

"THAT, I can deal with if he tries." Katherine looks over. "Be on your guard. And call me when you find out something."

"I will. Keep in contact if you find something first. You have ways and means of finding things out I just don't." Kat weaves all sorts of webs, and then there's compulsions.
