Dawn brings news to the Beacon Hills pack, but the pieces just aren't coming together yet.

August 5, 2016
Beacon Hills Public School Library

Having returned from her short visit to San Francisco, and had a night to ponder her new information, Dawn sent a text to Lydia and Stiles, that they needed to talk about the Key. So it is that she now shows up, walking into the library and looking around for the others.

Stiles is already in the library, currently sitting on one of the tables, cross-legged, with a bunch of books spread out around him. He flips through various pages furiously, almost seeming at random, but at the same time, he's unusually focused. Occasionally he'll stop and make notes out loud, apparently recording them on his phone. Just as Dawn arrives, he stops to turn to Derek, grimacing, and complains, "This place needs a cork board or something."

The text from Dawn to Lydia got forwarded to Soo and to various other members of the pack, and so it is that Soo and Lydia are waiting in the library, with the redhead reading through text, and the werecat sitting on the ground next to her, head resting against her thigh as he half heartedly attempts to sift through the dense text. "Remind me again why I'm reading Latin?" He asks her, head tilted slightly to one side as he looks up at the girl.

"Because you're sifting for key words, not reading for content. If you were reading for content, I'd have you on the Korean text over there. But considering it's about a thousand years old and languages evolve, you might as well read Latin." Lydia sounds just a little snippy, but she's also been up half the night sifting through information, as the scattered coffee cups attest.

Grey Dunbar had noticed the lights still on in the school and seeing someone else enter decided to follow behind to see whats going on, stepping into the library behind Dawn he notes that while he doesn't know her, he knows pretty much everyone else here, as it's pretty much half the pack. "Wow, getting the jump on next year's homework?", catching Lydia and Soo's comment he notes, "I've got some limited understanding of latin if you want help?"

Liam Dunbar hears the sounds of his friends voices and comes in wearing his standard baggy gym shorts and muscle shirt and glistening sweat meaning he's been working out in the weight room. He leans on a door frame, "Whats up guys?" He's been out of the loop between working out school, working a job and learning to ride his new motorcycle.

She may not know everybody, but given they're at school in the summer, she figures they're connected to the pack. So, she speaks up as she walks right in, "Lorne had a vision... He owns the Caritas, Lydia met him last night," she adds, as she realizes most of them won't know who Lorne is. "The Key, whatever it was, was sent to me, I'm guessing to protect. Or, well, to a Slayer and he got the vision while I was singing, and I'm the only Slayer in Beacon Hills anyway. So whatever it is, it probably showed up around here for me to protect. But I can't think of anything that showed up around me lately."

Stiles grins at Derek as he brings the white board over, snapping his fingers and pointing at it. "Yes. Now that's what I need!" He hops off the desk, only half tripping, and rushes over to the office area. He returns, beaming triumphantly, with several differently colored dry-erase markers. As he climbs back up onto the table, reaching to steady himself on Derek, he catches Dawn's announcement.

"To you, huh? Well, that's... weird." He frowns, rubbing at his chin a little, then uncaps a black marker to write "The Key" and "Dawn" on the board. He circles both, then switches to blue to connect the two, drawing a question mark above it. "Then there's the psycho-tramp who attacked Scott's mom at the hospital." He writes "Psycho" in another bubble, then draws a red line between it and "The Key." Glancing around the room, particularly at Lydia and Soo's table, he asks, "So, what else do we know?"

"She has bad taste in perfume." Soo notes. "When I went to visit Melissa earlier, I smelled it on her clothes. Smelled like skank. Not Melissa, whatever it was that attacked her... So... There's that." Soo looks at his book again, then sighs. "I'm also learning I don't like Latin."

"At least you're not learning to read Cuneiform, Soo. Be thankful." Lydia stands, which causes Soo's head to bump against the chair, and she starts walking. She's wearing the dress she wore to the party last night, and it's honestly not appropriate for the school confines. "So the psychotic blonde who attacked Melissa is the same person who sacked the school... Does anyone know why Melissa was down there, anyway?"

Grey Dunbar looks around as the one person he doesn't know speaks and raises an eyebrow in interest at what he sees, he's still not used to interpriting this stuff but she's not something he's seen before but to be fair there's a lot of somethings he's not seen before, he can't help but wonder when is to soon to inquire what exactly someone is?, "So I'm guessing back trouble, is Scott's mom alright?", he looks at Dawn again and then realises he actually sort of knows her, "Wait, Dawn Summers?", no way theres another Sunnydale kid here.

Liam Dunbar pack she's raising a pack of werewolves kitties and an immortal.... hellskank ain't nothing

Liam Dunbar blinks at seeing his brother who had vanished and returned without any notice. He just sighs shakes his head and really has no clue what's going on. "Uhhh. Someone wanna catch me up? Or should I just go back and work out and you'll tell me when there's somethign to punch?"

"Ancient Ones," Derek mentions, providing a handy and very reliable, very sturdy support for Stiles in wherever he may wish to go. He's good at being sturdy. That's at least half of his role as Alpha. "The Old Times." His eyes keep going back to Dawn, his voice a low rumble between himself and Stiles. He may tolerate the presence of a Slayer, but he certainly isn't going to embrace it. At least she hasn't done anything terrible yet.

Dawn looks to Stiles in surprise, "Someone attacked Scott's mom? Is she okay?" She nods then, at the information presented, "That's gotta be the Beast, then." To Stiles question, she answers, "I don't know if it helps, but the monks who sent the Key, they did it by casting some kind of spell. Right as the Beast crashed in to wherever they were hiding. And they were Slavik, Lorne said." She considers, and then says, "And the Beast seemed to be after a student, maybe she thinks one has the Key? Oh... If she knew it was sent to me, then she was probably looking for me. Except I hadn't started here yet." It's then that she looks to Grey, "Yep." Then she, too, seems to recognize him, and grins, "Hi!"

Stiles yanks the top off another marker with his teeth, shooting it into the air (where Derek could easily catch it if he wants) with his mouth, and then begins scrawling anew on the white board. Squeak squeak squeak. "So the Beast is the she-devil who wears crappy perfume and cheap nail polish," Stiles observes. He looks over to Dawn, gives a bob of his head, and says, "I guess she left Melissa alone and then ran off." Looking back to Lydia, he says, "I guess some intern went running off down there? She was looking for him."

He continues to write and draw on the board as he speaks, saying, "Liam, buddy, you gotta keep up. Some evil Beast who looks like a really trampy woman broke into school. Last night she attacked Scott's mom--who's okay, thank god--and now Dawn's telling us that it looks like she's after this 'Key' thing that the books keep talking about, which it sounds like Dawn's supposed to have... but doesn't." He glances to Derek. "Did I miss anything?"

To Grey, he says, "When the hell did you get back? I thought you moved to South America or something."

Derek catches the cap and, with a soft sigh, sets it down beside Stiles on the table. His eyes continue to flick between the people in the library, though he's quiet enough until Stiles directly addresses him. "Are you sure you don't have this Key?" His chest rises and falls, shoulders in time with his deep, slow, steady breaths through his nose. "It's obviously not going to just look like a house key. Think about it. About anything that isn't like the things around it."

Maybe Derek's tone is slightly pointed as he addresses Dawn, but it has been a stressful ordeal for everyone. And now that Melissa has been attacked, well...it's become more serious than it was before. "This is revolving around you. We were lucky this time, but I'm not risking more of my pack. This isn't our fight." He grits his teeth, nostrils flaring. "So I need you to think. Really hard."

"So Melissa gets attacked, she breaks in here looking for school records... Is Scott the key?" Soo asks weakly, eyes crossing and uncrossing. Finally, he sets the book down and leans forward onto all fours, stretching languidly in a way that, for anyone else? Would seem lascivious, but with Soo is just... Soo. He rises, moving easily across the room to examine Dawn more fully. "Are you sure you don't still have the key?" He asks curiously, absently lifting a strand of the girl's hair and peeking under it.

The Banshee moves back to her chair, sitting down and putting her head in her hands for a moment, trying to think. "Something weird's been going on in town, too. Haven't there been a lot more psych calls for the police, Stiles?"

"Another Sunnydaler, wild what happened to the town right?", Grey shakes his head, "Cleveland actually, I was with a guy called Rio though, I left a note, I think...". He looks to Liam and focuses, 'I know I have some explaining to do but can we leave it until later?'. Grey looks at Stiles' board, "So we're looking for a key? Any clues?"

Liam Dunbar just rolls his eyes, he's used to people vanishing, most of his friend seemed to vanisha around the same time. He just shrugs, while he was pretty bright, he knows he's no match for stiles or lydia, so he'll just sit back and wait for something to punch, or untill he's told to do something... Then he has a thought, "You said it was passed by a spell? Could it be something you don't know you have... like a spell on something you have?"

Dawn shakes her head to Derek and Soo, "I don't know. Not for sure. But I went through everything I own last night, and everything around the house. There is nothing that just showed up. Nothing new. Not that me or my mom could think of." She looks to Liam, then, looking surprised at that, "Maybe that's it. It isn't something new, maybe." She bites her lip as she looks to Grey, and says, "Yeah, that's kind of our fault. We had to collapse the Hellmouth, it was the only way to close it. I'm just really, really glad everybody already evacuated. Don't think anybody knew it was that big! We thought it was just under the high school."

"And after all," Stiles says, raising a hand, index finger extended, to point at Dawn. "It's always okay to collapse a giant crater under the high school." He taps the butt of the marker against the table, then looks up, backward, at Derek. "I dunno, Sourwolf. This thing attacked Scott's mom, and--" He gestures to Lydia. "There are all these crazy psych-related 911 calls. I'm kinda starting to think that this might be our problem, whether we like it or not."

His expression is grim as he makes a few more notes on the board. He draws a number of lines, in four different colors, all point back to "The Key," which he circles again. "So it's nothing new that you can find, but it could be old." He makes a face, rubbing at his forehead with his marker hand and narrowly avoiding drawing a stripe on his face. "If it's a spell-thing, maybe we should find some kind of... spell-thing... that detects... spell-things? Does that make sense to anybody?"

Glancing over at the brothers Dunbar, he says, "Liam, do you know what Nookie smells like?" A beat, and then he adds, with a pointed look. "I mean the perfume."

"I didn't say it wasn't our problem." Derek immediately answers, still clearly displeased about it. "And you're right. It is our problem. Now." There's a significant glance back at Dawn, before he looks back to the board. "Could Lance detect it? I mean...has anybody asked him? He may know something that none of us can find in a book." He might have even been there when some of this weird crazy ancient business went down. Who knows?

"... Is it weird that I didn't even think to consult with Lance?" Lydia asks, looking up from her hands. She's exhausted, but she still looks flawless, somehow. Even with faintly visible bags under her eyes. "I really need to remember that he's more than he seems. We all are, but him, especially." She rolls her neck, then flips to another page in her book before sighing. "This isn't helping. I read the same page three times and it's just not coming together in my head." Huh, who'd have thought that reading ancient Sumerian languages might be difficult.

Soo moves to look over Lydia's shoulder, because that's totally going to help. "Come on. I'll drive you home, you've been here all night. I'll even draw you a bubble bath and give you a back rub?" Soo looks apolegetically toward the pack with a little shrug. He'd probably offer that to anyone in the pack, right?

With that offer in mind, Lydia hands over the car keys and stands, allowing herself to be led out of the library. "Stiles, call me if anything new develops? I just need a few hours..."

"Wait, it was you who took out the Hellmouth? Kinda iffy about that", Grey stands next to Dawn a whispers, "Hey, just out of interest, what are you, I know the wolf energy and otherweres are similar but I don't know what all kinds seem? Whats that green thing you got goin' on?". He watches as Soo and Lydia leave, "Theres a perfume called 'nookie'? really? Classy."

Liam Dunbar thinks for a moment then nods, "Yeah I think So. One time when ethan took me out clothes shopping we went to a place to look at colognes and stuff. To get for a gift or something? Anyway he saw the Title and you know HAD to try it on. And buy a few bottles just for the name. I think I might have one actually like in the back of my closet or something?" He shrugs, "Might have gotten thrown out though with all the other breakup stuff. And Closest i know to a wit.... Hey wait! Um doesn't Ollie know magic stuff? I know he's busy with his new guy, but isn't he still pack?"

Dawn waves to Soo and Lydia, as they leave. She looks to Grey curiously, then, "Green? I don't know. I'm a Slayer, and I know Immortals and even Lorne react to my aura way more than other Slayers. Maybe it's that?" She looks back to Stiles, and says, "Yeah, there's people that can do that. I bet Angel would know someone, if you guys don't. I'd ask my sister's friend Willow, but she's taking some trip for the summer I think."

"So," Stiles says slowly, "Dawn's an especially sparkly Slayer. Huh." Of course, he's bid Lydia and Soo good night as the two head out, nodding his agreement to text if anything comes up. "Lance," he says thoughtfully, looking at Derek, and then back to Liam. "Wait. Oliver--the were-bunny? Is he, uh... really gonna be much help, here?" He lifts his phone, snapping a picture of the white board, and starts texting Lance. "Maybe he's heard some of these terms before, at least," he supposes. Then, leaning back against Derek, he gestures sweepingly at the board with his marker. "I still think the key--uh, sorry--to all this is these monks. They're the ones who knew everything."

"They're dead, if that vision was right." Derek folds his arms over his chest, pulling his mouth into a thin, set line. "We're limited to our resources on hand. Lance is the best bet right now, of the people I know we can trust." Which doesn't include Angel's contacts; maybe the Alpha is getting a little territorial, but it is his town, and at the moment he's more than slightly resentful at the intrusion into his space.

Grey Dunbar backs away from Dawn forgetting the green light for the moment, "You're a slayer?", a slayer being who killed his mother, forcing himself to hold back for now he focuses on Stiles, "Is Scott at the hospital keeping an eye on his mom? Should we set up some sort of guard to keep an eye on her? Take it in turns so he can get some sleep and incase whoever it is comes back?"

Liam Dunbar blinks and apparently is the only on whos kept up even a little contact, "Ollie was a witch or somethign who had a curse on him and turned into a bunny. IT got broken and he's back to being a witch. And I think his boyfriend is some magicy thingy? I haven't talked to him much, but we do talk a little. I could reach out I guess? I mean if Lance doesn't know anything they might?" He is soo out of his depth here.

"Where do you think he is, Grey?" Stiles asks, reaching out to pick up the marker cap Derek salvaged and then snapping it back onto the marker. "Yeah. He's making sure she's safe, and my dad's got people watching the hospital, too." Looking back up at Derek he says, "I sent Lance everything we've got. He'll probably hit me up soon. He's pretty efficient... at least, as long as he's not in party mode." He peers at Liam, then, and shrugs. "Well, if you think he might know something, pup, go ahead and check with him. I'm not really friends with Oliver."

Looking curiously to Grey, Dawn nods, and says, "Yep I am." Her phone beeps then, and she pulls it out to check. She nods to Stiles, and says, "I really gotta get home, but let me know when he's available. We can look through my stuff and see if he sees anything. We gotta find it, whatever it is." She gives a final wave, then turns to hurry out.

"Good idea, Grey. You can go down and relieve Scott when he needs rest." Derek may or may not have misinterpreted the statement. Maybe there's just the slightest sadistic streak in him. He nods to acknowledge Stiles. "I'm sure it won't be long. We need to make sure the rest of the pack are all as safe as possible. No going off alone -- pair up if you're going anywhere." He looks out at those who are still there. "And report in. Every day."

Grey Dunbar watches as Dawn heads off and is about to snipe back at Stiles when Derek (being mean or not) seems to have listened to him, "Yeah I can do that, I'll wait outside the room and make sure no one wearing 'nookie' gets past", he can at least give Scott a heads up to be ready if something gets past the hard way.

Liam Dunbar is most likely going to forget to check in. He just shrugs, "I'm gonna get back to working out. Um I'll get oliver a call tomorrow?" He then walks back out to get back to workiing out, knowing the others will call him if he's needed and if not well he'll just keep working on getting caught up and back in shape after the breakup.

Stiles stares at the departing Liam, scrambling forward off the desk, and calls after him, "Liam! What'd Derek just say? Don't go off by yourself!" He looks over at Grey. "Go with him, will you? Make sure he's okay?" He sighs a bit. Well. At least Liam's obsessively working out again. That's got to be a good sign, he figures. Then, turning to face Derek, Stiles says, "I guess that leaves us to clean up. Then, I'm coming over to your place. I demand junk food and alone time." A beat, and he clarifies, "By which I mean me, and you, alone. Together."

"Liam! Remember. Write yourself a note." Derek has anticipated that he'll forget; he knows the pack at least as well as Scott does. When Stiles directs Grey to follow Liam, the Alpha nods his agreement. "Beat it into his head if you have to: no going alone, and check in." He sighs, sitting on the table and slumping a bit once it's finally just himself and Stiles alone in the library. "We're not having much rest until this is sorted out."

Grey Dunbar sighs and nods turning to follow Liam, "I'll take him with me to keep an eye on Scott and his mom, that way we've got a guard and you know where we both are", he walks quickly to catch up with the other Dunbar.

Nodding, Stiles gives a sigh, looking around at the mess of books. "Well, I'm bringing my work home with me. I sent some of what we've got to some of the contacts I made online last year, so maybe one of them will be able to suggest another text that we're missing." He pokes Derek lightly in the chest and emphasizes, "But I mean it on the junk food and stuff. I need fuel in the tank." Then, with a flash of his usual indignation, he declares, "Plus, I absolutely refuse to face another apocalypse without a certain amount of healthy grease in my system." He winks at Drek, grinning, and calls after Grey, "Thanks, dude!" Then, it's just a matter of cleaning up and heading out.

After which, there had damn well better be a pizza. Or at least some egg rolls.
