After the death of John Kearse, Faith tries to leave. Angel's not so quick to let her disappear. Faith eventually takes time to think, but promises to return.

The Hyperion Hotel - Faith Lehane's Room[]

The lights are on, illuminating the area.

A fairly spacious room, this one is also clean and smells fresh, though there's a sort of age in the scent, something that nothing can really draw out of the walls of the place. The decor has a sort of mod, art deco feel about it. It's not unpleasant though, and the large bed is made neatly, with soft, plush bedclothes and fluffy pillows. A small table, enough room for only two, sits near the window with two chairs. Dark red drapes blot out the window, but they part easily enough. An air conditioner unit sits on the wall nearby. A small bathroom with a combination shower and tub, as well as of course a toilet, sink, and well-lit mirror, lies nearer to the door.

Outside, it's clear, cool, and windy.

Angel knocks on Faith's door...upon a lack of response, he opens it, being very worried for her...

...and no Faith. Did she? the window's open, she must have slipped out that way. Perhaps to brood?

Angel, being a vampire, now puts scent tracking to use. And follows her scent in the air. The blood smell will make it easier if she didn't change shirts or leave that one behind. The Master Brooder may understand the wish of others to brood, but he isn't going to let her escape without letting her know how it stands.

She did change shirts. The bloody shirt is in the trash can. And she's headed for...well, obviously, the garage to get her bike. She knows she can't get away on foot.

Angel breaks into a dead run. He has to hope he can gain enough ground on her to make a proper chase of it before she notices him coming.

She's already got her helmet on and one leg over. "Angel, don't." She NEEDS to be away from him right now...

"...You have to realize I wouldn't abandon you. No matter what." This is the guy who kicked the love of his life out of town once for the girl in front of him now.

"Ain't what I'm worried about. I need to get myself back under control before I hurt somebody who *isn't* scum." Which...yes, it makes sense, right?

"The best way to do that is with the people who care about you. With the people who can catch you when you fall...or when you slip. That's what we're here for. We're here for you." Angel very much wants her to stay. "Besides, I'm happier when you're here, and happiness isn't a world ending problem for me anymore."

"I didn't..." Faith sighs and turns around. "I can't be trusted right now."

Angel remembers a time he told something like that to be Buffy. "Maybe that's for us to decide."

"I'm not risking it." She lets out a breath. "It's still there, all of it. I haven't dealt with it. I've just put a veneer over it."

Angel's former answer to that...that he's got something much worse chained up inside...is no longer true. And hasn't been true since May. "I remember a day you begged me to kill you. I risked it then. Risking myself is something I do every day. Risking it for my best friend? Yeah. You're worth it." Pause. "So maybe it is there. Trying to fight that kind of thing alone never worked out for me. I'd rather you face your demons with me."

"I need to *think* at least?" It sounds like progress. It sounds like she's at least going to come back.

"Love and friendship have to be freely accepted to be worth anything. But if you need time to think, don't sneak off. Get the rest of what you need from your room, and come back when you're ready." He's also worried about what Wolfram and Hart might try to pull while she's not with him, but...

Her lips quirk. "I'll be back." And then she starts the bike.

One of the hardest things to do is let someone you care about go. But Angel's a veteran doing that, having had to do that with Buffy herself, twice. And even Erica come to think of it. "We'll be waiting. Take care."
