Hyperion Hotel San Francisco

The Hyperion Hotel[]

The lights are on, illuminating the area.

The California-Spanish building known as the Hyperion Hotel was built in the 20s. Through the cast iron gates from the sidewalk is a small front courtyard with a rectangular fountain and a mythological figure holding a bowl from which water flows. Greenery frames the walls and a large set of glass double doors open into a high ceilinged lobby. Dark red carpet descends the four steps to the lobby floor and climb the two sets of stairways that lead to the second floor. The green marble floors are accented with wavy red inserts, as are the walls have a complimentary red border running their length. A set of doors identical to those of the entrance lead to a small enclosed garden.

Cream-colored pillars line two sides of the room, holding up the second-floor balconies that look out onto the lobby and creating arches. Underneath one of them is a large plate glass window that looks into the hotel office - now used as the office and nerve center of Angel Investigations. Nearby, there's a wraparound counter with dark wood paneling and a top the same color as the floor. Behind it are filing cabinets and a pair of desks pushed together. A navy blue circular couch harkening back to a 50s design sits near the back of the lobby. A large wooden, glass-doored cabinet pushed up against the wall holds a large assortment of weapons.

Outside, it's snowing heavily.

Among the many things going on...it's STILL snowing! Sure, magic's been restored to the world, but this much snow in California is just unreal. There's not much that can be done about it till March 21st. If it's still snowing THEN, he can act on behalf of the change of the seasons. But...it is still technically winter for another month. In the meantime, Angel's to be found doing more AI paperwork.

And since Angel is doing AI paperwork, Cordelia is doing AI paperwork. Might as well, right? Instead of worrying about the next impending apocalypse or whatever, she's going to get those invoices written up and the notes done for cases closed. The world doesn't stop, and neither does she. Even if filming is going to start soon for her series, which means she might be scarce for stretches of time, and she'll be more in the public eye.

With a press of a few keys, Cordy fires up the printer across the room. "Okay, done."

Willow's area for research is slowly spreading as yet more things crop up that she needs to research. We have the Necronomicon pile in the office, the winter in San Fran pile on a table in the lobby, the passing along of Carson's gift to all Slayers in a pile on the concierge in the lobby and her last project in her lab in the hotel kitchen. (player has forgotten which project #4 was) Willow moves from pile to pile, picking a new thing to research every day so she doesn't get burnt out on any one thing. Today is luckily snow in San Fran day.

And...Faith was out in the snow. Of course she was. She stomps it off her boots in the doorway and then makes her way inside. "Angel, can we please tell the winter fae it's time to go away?" she quips, albeit cheerfully.

"They're pretty adamant about their scheduling. I can make them leave late March, maybe even early March if they're feeling nice, but...we're going to be stuck for a while, I think." By now, the snow's more hassle than anything else. The fun part of snow is long gone.

Meanwhile, there's no impending Apocalypses that he knows of, just the trouble up north, both Wolf trouble and the Gentlemen, though they haven't appeared yet.

"The Winter Court is filled with nasty little frosty spiky people, with nasty little frosty spiky frozen hearts." Cordy gets to her feet, stretching softly before looking around herself. She knocks on the desktop, a superstitious action to be sure, but she's read a lot in the last few months. You can never be too careful.

Then Cordelia makes her way over to the printer, inspecting the sheets printed out and stacking them back in the tray. "Remember that little soiree that seemed to stretch on forever?" She pauses, thoughtful, then looks directly to Faith. "Anyway, I met a *lot* of people at that thing. Winter really chills right to the bone. I'd rather have snow than ice storms."

Ah yes, the Gentlemen. Yet another something Willow has to research. Another pile may have to be formed. Maybe in Willow's room? She's running out of places to put piles that aren't interfering with everyone else's work. She looks up from her dusty tome. "And we're certain that the snow is due to the winter fairy court? Because one less thing to try and figure out would be a bit of a relief."

"I don't care if it is or not, I'm blaming them anyway," Faith quips as she peels out of her coat, hanging it on a hook. It drips slightly as the snow begins to melt.

"It seems more likely than not it has something to do with them. We'll know for sure if it stops immediately when Spring comes. They might be enjoying themselves a little too much right now, but they're unlikely to disrupt the order of things." He wonders if all the Seasons will find themselves enhanced like that. "I wonder if summer will be as hot as winter is cold..." Cause San Francisco with Phoenix Arizona temperatures would be a terrifying thought.

Cordy makes a face. "I *really* hope not. I'm having *words* with people if it gets that hot here." She turns back to the printer, to collect her papers, then walks to Angel and holds out the stack to him. "Let's just hope they'll get it out of their system in the next week or two, we've got to get filming. Blizzards in September aren't that common either."

Willow stands up and starts to pick up books from the table and put them away. "Well, in that case, I can free up this table for a couple of weeks until it's more important. I could use the space for other projects. Angel, do we have any cases you need me to research for?"

"I think we need to get you some help, Will," Faith comments. "Maybe somebody has an apprentice witch they could lend us." Learning from Willow would be good, right?

"In theory, the Grand Council has any number of apprentices to loan Willow. Have you spoken with them, lately?" Angel'd think so. He can't actually teach her anything about magic. But they can. "They can probably offer a lot if you think to ask."

"There shouldn't be blizzards in September. That'd step on Fall's toes, and they're not going to put up with that." And he could always put in a call to Rey if that sort of thing happens.

"Grand Coven," Cordy gently corrects Angel, walking to the front desk, to lean on it as she often does. "And right, I know, but we don't shoot in September to broadcast in September. We shoot in a week or two, so...yeah, that's going to be a problem if it's still spitting snow at us when it's supposed to be early autumn. Y'know?"

Casually Cordy picks up a pen and starts to rotate it in a hand, clicking it every time it rotates around. "Is Willow even a 'teacher' level witch? No shade or anything. Legit wondering."

Casting a spell on the rest of the books on the table, they follow her like little ducklings waddling after their mother. Each one is placed back in the shelves one by one. She even says thank you to each book as she plucks it out of the air before putting it away, as if following her was a courtesy. "Actually, if I had the time, I was thinking that *I* should be the one learning from them. Most witches learn from other witches. While I learned everything for myself."

The redhead offers a smile and a shrug to Cordy. "No offense taken. It's true. I'm not actually a very good witch. Just a very talented one. Though perhaps I can spend more time there."

Faith Lehane hrms. "Well, the only other idea for research help...I ain't inviting any watchers here. Unless it's Giles."

"Giles was here, during the Glory crisis. I think he's in England, trying to sort the Council out. It may take him a while. They're...set in their ways." Angel knows a little something about being set in your ways, though he's had to adapt quite a bit lately. "Let's stick with the Coven. Willow, go ahead and start asking around. You have been self taught...and you might've discovered tricks about magic they never considered because they do things in an established way. But the established ways they have got that way for a reason. You'll undoubtedly get stronger as you learn their ways."

"Wes actually *works* here," Cordelia quickly points out, resting the pen and propping her cheeks on her hands. "I mean, he's not here most of the time. Off hunting rogue demons, probably." Her expression slowly shifts to a soft, almost lazy smile. "Yeah, that was kinda...what I was thinking? I think you're a good witch. You've kinda got to be, with all that you've done. But if I were a witch? I'd want to hang out with Nessa." Their meeting, back during Cordy's power crisis, left a distinct impression. Nessa knows how to dress, and that's a major source of impressing Cordy. But more than that, she has a sort of aura. Something Cordy could perceive, something she could recognize as a kind of formidable quality.

Willow Rosenberg says, "I like Nessa. And Myrtle. And even Fiona grows on you when she isn't telling you she will have to kill you if you decide to read the Book of the Dead." At the mention of Giles being back in England, Willow sighs softly. Tara and her parted way on good terms, but Tara following Giles to England to help with the Watchers has left Willow lonely. "I have to go there, to the Grand Coven, anyway. I'm trying to see if Carson's little talent, to be able to figure out different vampire types by the way they feel to him, if I can somehow spread that to all the Slayers. Using the scythe."

"It's possible. It's only an expansion of Slayer instincts." Carson, though, bothers Faith. He bothers her a lot. It isn't supposed to...work that way.

"Well, Willow, go check with the Coven. I'm sure they'd like to see more of you anyway. We're your friends, but we can't teach you the way they can. They know things we just don't." And with that..."In the meantime, let's get back to work on the less magical stuff while Willow handles her specialty."
